For Teachers The three Science and Technology units of work provide opportunities to develop students' understanding of the processes of investigating (scientifically) and designing and making while furthering their knowledge of grains and legumes as part of a healthy diet. The units are based on the NSW Science and Technology K–6 syllabus outcomes but could be adapted to meet the curriculum requirements of other state syllabuses. Reference is also made in the units to the Big Ideas that were developed to support the revised syllabus outcomes and provide the staged progression of learning from K–6. They were first published on the Supporting SciTech in the primary classroom CD-ROM as part of an Australian Government Quality Teaching Project (2003). The Big Ideas can be accessed from the NSW Department of Education and Training's Curriculum web pages. Each unit includes a teaching and learning sequence, strategies, student worksheets, suggested assessment, links to other key learning areas, resources and associated web sites. While the units have been specifically identified for a particular stage of learning, the content could be adapted for multi-stage classes. The content of the three units could be combined to form a larger unit. All the information you need to teach the units on this web site is included. The students' section has been designed to support the implementation of ICT skills in the classroom. Some of the student activities support the units, others are just for fun. |
